    What Are Road Planings?

The process of removing the top layer of an existing road surface, typically using a specialized machine called a road milling machine, is known as Road Planings.

These are also referred to as Tarmac Scalpings, Tarmac Planings or Road Scalpings. The material that is removed from the surface in this process is then typically transported away and disposed of or recycled.

This process is done in order to repair or resurface roads that have become worn or damaged. The removed material can also be used to level or smooth out a road surface, or to remove old paint or markings.

Once the removed material has cooled, it can be used as a hardwearing and weather resistant recycled aggregate and can be repurposed for use on hardstandings such as car parks, footpaths, farm tracks and haul roads.

Additionally, they can also be used as a sub-base in construction or as void filling material, but must not be reheated, for health and safety reasons.
